Jason Momoa has revealed he and Lisa Bonet are splitting up after spending 16 years together.
The couple, who have been married for almost five years, announced their separation on social media on Wednesday.
In a lengthy post, Jason wrote to his 16.5 million followers on Instagram : “We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding ~and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring.
“And so~ We share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage.”
They said they wanted to go public with their news so they can go about their lives with “dignity and honesty”.
Jason added in the joint statement: “The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other ~to be who we are learning to become… Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life & our Children.
“Teaching our Children what’s possible ~ Living the Prayer. May Love Prevail.”
Jason included several photos along with the statement, including one of a sunset, a snap of a selection of tall flags, and another which looked to be one of his kids holding a bird.
Jason and Lisa have been together since 2005 and tied the knot in October 2017 in a small ceremony in Topanga, California.
The pair share two children together, daughter Lola, 14, and son Nakoa-Wolf, 13.
Jason is also the stepfather to Lisa’s daughter, actress Zoe Kravitz, 33, who Lisa shares with ex-husband Lenny Kravitz.
Lisa and Lenny eloped in 1987, but later divorced in 1993.
The Aquaman star previously told how his family faced dark times when his character Khal Drogo was killed off in 2011, before the series became a mega hit for HBO.
He appeared on the huge series in what was his breakout role in acting. However, before it took off, Jason confessed he struggled to get any further work.
He claimed: “I couldn’t get work. It’s very challenging when you have babies and you’re completely in debt.”
He’s since gone on to find huge success from the series and land, but revealed things weren’t always this good.
The actor told InStyle in an interview: “I mean, we were starving after Game Of Thrones.”
