Alex Jones say ‘terrifying’ Strictly experience put her off dancing for life

The One Show ’s Alex Jones says being on Strictly gave her a lifelong phobia of dance.

The mum-of-three admitted: “It’s so terrifying. For me it stopped me dancing for ever more.

“But I did love the experience.”

The dance show’s effect on Alex was the opposite of how it left Judge Rinder, he revealed in an interview alongside her.

But despite how it affected her, Alex, 44, was no slouch on the show in 2011. She and professional partner James Jordan made it to the semi-finals, finishing fifth.

Robert Rinder, who appeared on the show five years later, said he was also terrified at the time but that the experience inspired him.

He joined a dance group and is now enjoying putting his moves into practice in panto. He said in the chat with Radio Wales: “It’s about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on”.

Rinder, 43, who was partnered with pro Oksana Platero, also finished in fifth place.

Currently appearing in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Bristol Hippodrome, he said of Strictly: “I was terrified.” But he added: “I really do love it… what Strictly did do was connect me with the joy.”

While Alex insisted she was staying away from dancing, she said that joining a public class would be preferable to being compared with the pros and fellow celebs on Strictly.

She sighed: “Dance Fitness sounds brilliant because everybody would be of a level.”
