Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed he has sent Steven Gerrard a six-word text message ahead of the Reds icon’s return to Anfield on Saturday.
Saturday’s match is bound to be an emotional occasion as former Reds captain returns to the ground where he made his name and faces his old club.
It comes after Klopp was issued on a fitness update for three of his players ahead of the Premier League encounter.
Here are Mirror Football’s latest Liverpool headlines.
Premier League goalkeeping legend Shay Given has told Liverpool’s Alisson Becker he is not the best goalkeeper in the division.
The Liverpool stopper has kept more clean sheets than anyone else in the division this season (eight), but has rivals who have conceded fewer goals overall.
And it has led Given to share his view on who is the best goalkeeper overall in the league.
Fitness updates have been given on Roberto Firmino, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliot as the Liverpool trio battle back from injury.
Elliot suffered from a horrific ankle injury during September’s victory over Leeds United, Jones has been ruled out for a number of weeks due to a freak eye injury and Firmino has had a ‘serious’ hamstring injury since the start of November.
But the players could soon be ready to come back into the fold following the latest news on their injuries.
Klopp’s six-word message to Gerrard
Jurgen Klopp has revealed the message he sent to Steven Gerrard ahead of the Aston Villa manager’s return to Anfield.
Gerrard is considered an absolute legend at Liverpool and Saturday will bring his first competitive game at Anfield since his departure for LA Galaxy in 2015.
He’s already impressed during his short stint in charge at Villa Park, and Klopp says he made contact with Gerrard ahead of the big game.
