Dominic Calvert-Lewin has responded to critics of his recent ‘skirt’ photoshoot.
The England international, 24, perfectly hit back at a cheeky heckle on stage during the Football For Change charity gala in Liverpool on Saturday night.
Everton’s popular striker recently became a social media sensation thanks to his cover shoot with Arena HOMME+ magazine.
Though many have praised the young star for not restricting himself to gendered clothes, some have taken issue with the fact the fashionable footballer wears outfits other than sportswear and more traditional suits.
As comic Russell attempted to chat with the stylish striker about his sartorial choices of late, one cheeky guest opted to heckle the young star – yelling ‘skirt’ several times.
“Actually, they were culottes,” Dominic corrected the noisy hecklers, to a huge round of applause from the rest of the supportive audience.
The footballer then went on to discuss all things fashion with another star known for his stylish statements, Sir Rod.
The singer – one of the most famous Celtic FC fans – and footballers Jamie and Dominic were all brought together to support Football For Change over the weekend.
The foundation held its inaugural gala dinner on Saturday night to raise funds for disadvantaged young people who find themselves devoid of opportunities in education and employment.
Westlife star Nicky Byrne played host for the night against the backdrop of an incredible stage set up, while Pixie Lott and M People’s Heather Small entertained guests in a star-studded room alongside the likes of some of the most famous footballers in the country, Carol Vorderman, Matt Lucas and Sue Johnson.
Elsewhere in the evening, Sir Rod stole the show as he gave an impromptu performance after being joined on stage during the Q&A by his young son, Aiden Stewart.
“One more thing, would you give us a song?” Aiden asked his dad on stage, to a delighted audience.
“I’ll try,” Rod coyly replied, adding that he hadn’t warmed up.
The much-loved star then went on to wow the crowd at the Titanic Hotel with a rendition of his 1993 hit single, Have I Told You Lately.
“Sir Rod stole the show,” the Sky Sports pundit Jamie said of the star’s surprise performance.
“He had the room captivated by stories about his phenomenal music career and love of football.
“He wowed everyone by giving a song. It was a brilliant night and he helped make it the success that it was.”
As part of Football For Change’s glittering evening, which raised over £250,000 to aid community organisations supporting school leavers who are struggling for employment and education opportunities, an auction took place with completely mind-blowing prizes.
