Tyson Fury’s wife Paris sets retirement deadline for world champion

Tyson Fury’s wife Paris hopes the heavyweight world champion will hang up his gloves in as little as two years’ time.

Fury has not suffered a loss in 32 fights since turning professional in 2008 and put a decisive end to this trilogy with Deontay Wilder earlier this month.

Fury listed his five-fight plan before stopping Wilder, which included fights with domestic rivals Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte.

‘The Gypsy King’ has also hinted at retirement, stating he doesn’t need to fight again – and Paris thinks he will likely retire from boxing in 2023.

“I think for himself, I think he’ll probably do it for a few more years. He’s 33 now – I think maybe until he’s 35,” she told talkSPORT.

“I know Wladimir [Klitschko] and other men have gone on to being like 40, but do you keep going until you lose?

“I don’t know, I wouldn’t like to see that for Tyson. I wouldn’t like him to keep going and there’s always gonna be someone come up who’s younger and fresher if you are over the hill, too far gone.

“I just think maybe another two or three years and then Tyson should definitely hang up his gloves.”

WBC mandatory challenger Whyte expects Fury to be ordered to defend his title in an all-British clash early next year.

Whyte was supposed to fight Otto Wallin at the O2 Arena in London this weekend but was forced out of the fight with a shoulder injury.

Fury and his wife have six children to date, with daughter Athena Fury being the most recent to their family in August.

And Paris thinks it’s inevitable that one of their children will eventually follow in their father’s footsteps and take up boxing.

“At the moment none of them seem to want to be boxers, my eldest boy wants to do wrestling, my eldest girl said she wanted to do dance, now she wants to run her own business,” she continued.

“The little ones are all just babies and manic. I don’t think I’d like it at all. I watched Tyson from being a young age and he always dominated the scene.

“But to watch someone come up in the ranks and be hit and watch your boy doing it, I just couldn’t imagine that. And my girls, I just think they’re too soft for it completely.

“I think the day will come surely. We have six, surely one of them will do it, but I don’t know what it’ll be like.”
