Gary Glitter moved to new cell dubbed ‘paedokabin’ by fellow inmates

Paedophile pop star Gary Glitter has reportedly been moved to new jail cell dubbed ‘paedokabin’ by cons.

The convicted criminal, real name Paul Gadd, is said to be humiliated by his new digs in the grounds at HMP The Verne, near Portland, Dorset.

It’s been revealed that the 77-year-old, who was jailed for sex offences in 16 years, was placed in the temporary cabin last month in a switch aimed to help social distancing in the prison.

The disgraced star’s new surroundings include a bed, shower, sink and toilet.

Speaking about the move, a source told The Sun that the convicted criminal “won’t be enjoying” his new cell.

Disgraced Gary Glitter is said to have been moved to ‘grim’ temporary cabins in the prison he currently resides in

“It’s about as grim as it gets. The cabins creak every time you move about, they smell and they’re either too cold or too hot,” they told the publication.

“It’s like sleeping in one of those toilets they put up at music festivals. He won’t be enjoying it one bit.”

The disgraced singer is currently serving a 16 year sentence in HMP The Verne in Portland, Dorset for sexual offences.

The convicted paedophile, who rose to fame as a glam rocker in the 1970s, was put behind bars in 2015 for indecently assaulting young girls.

Earlier this year, it had been claimed that he was set to move from his current prison to an open prison.

Having now served seven years of his 16 year sentence, it was alleged in the summer that he had been told by governors at The Verne he’d been earmarked for a move to an open prison.

However there has been no sign of the transfer so far , and Justice Secretary Robert Buckland is believed to have the power to block the proposed move.

Speaking to Dorset Echo in June, former Big Break presenter Jim Davidson discussed the shamed star’s rehabilitation and how the convicted paedophile is apparently “remorseful” about his crimes.

“I spoke to Paul when I visited The Verne two years ago. He’s remorseful and he looked ready to start a new life,” Jim said of the jailed 77-year-old.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner’s mention of the jailed pop star came as he was discussing the charity he co-founded, Care after Combat.

Bursting onto the music scene in the early 1970s, Gary Glitter went on to sell over 20 million records and release 26 hit singles which would frequently enter the Top Ten of the UK Singles Chart.

His fall from grace came in the 1990s, when he was arrested and then convicted in 1999 for downloading thousands of items of child pornography.

After relocating and settling in Vietnam, a Vietnamese court found him guilty of obscene acts with minors in 2006.

He was deported back to the UK after serving his sentence and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

In October 2012, as part of Operation Yewtree, the former pop star was arrested once again – this time for historical child sex offences.

On 5 February 2015, he was found guilty of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and one of having sex with a girl under the age of 13.

Later the same month, he was sent down for a total of 16 years in prison.
